Happy Easter! I hope you are enjoying the celebration of God’s love today! John 15:13 states, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
As we continue with our confession from last week that is centered around the purpose of discipline, I encourage you to think of yourself as your child’s friend. Don’t we want them to have friends that are willing to challenge them when they are making unwise decisions? Isn’t a true friend someone who stands beside us whether we are “good” or not? Don’t we want friends who may not always agree with us, but will always love us? A friend who is willing to die if it means we are safe? So, YES, you can be your child’s friend and his parent too! This is yet another opportunity to display the true meaning of friendship.
Confession:
Because I’m a child, foolishness is in my heart, but because my mom and dad love me soooo…much they discipline me with a rod of correction early and drive foolishness from me.
Proverbs 22:15, NIV
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.
