Getting to Know Essential

Virtual

Join our administrator for a virtual presentation sharing Essential's policies, procedures, and purposes for supporting homeschooling families. This meeting is presented using the Microsoft Teams application.  When you RSVP, you will receive a link to this event.  You can choose to view on your web browser as a guest, or open the Microsoft Teams app to view with your Microsoft account.  We are unable to help you with technical difficulties, especially during the presentation.  We suggest that you explore the Microsoft Teams troubleshooting website for help, and we do know that Apple's Safari web/mobile browser has been known to present issues with this service. A Q&A chat box will be available during the meeting, and we encourage you to ask any questions there.  Kristy, our administrator, will address those questions after the presentation. Veterans Day Parade

McWane Special Events Center 200 19th Street North, Birmingham, AL, United States

Did you know that Birmingham is the home of America's first Veteran's Day?  Join families in lining the streets of downtown Birmingham in saluting the men and women of our armed forces. Consider going downtown early to visit the McWane Center, then step outside after lunch and set up chairs to enjoy the parade.

BHC Ice Skating Day

Pelham Civic Center 500 Amphitheater Road, Pelham, AL, United States

Join area homeschoolers for ice skating fun.  BHC has secured a group rate of $7/skater to include skate rental for this day.  Just let the rink know you are with BHC! If you have a teen, he or she can join BHC Teens for ice cream afterwards.

BHC Valentine’s Day Party

Leeds Memorial Park 1159 Montevallo Road SW, Leeds, AL, United States

Join us for perhaps the largest valentine swap in the world!  (And…we are not exaggerating) Get creative with your valentine boxes.  There will be prizes awarded for the most creative ones! Please know that a simple box is fine for collecting a ton of greetings – no reason to not come due to lack of time to create a special box. Valentine boxes should be dropped off by 1:45 so that they are ready for valentine delivery and judging. Valentines may be delivered any time between 2:00-2:45. Please prepare at least 50 valentines to deliver! If you want to create more, that’s fine; we’ve found that 50 is about right in order to have plenty to give out. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are encouraged for visiting in the open area at this park.  Let’s continue to show care and concern for those around us, and abide by health guidelines. For all the details visit the BHC website.

COST: $38/person ages 5 and up – includes admission, planetarium show, tour guide, student lab, and all processing fees. Ages 4 and under can attend for FREE, but they will not be allowed to participate in the student lab.  We will try to set up a place for parents and young children to explore while students are in the lab session.  AND – note that ages 3 and 4 need to wear a mask while indoors. SOME RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:   Just as astronauts brave the challenges of space, we will be facing the challenges presented by COVID-19. Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 transmissions, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is requiring all visitors ages 3 and older wear masks inside the buildings and on simulators regardless of vaccination status. Please remember that there is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place where people are present. Let’s all do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.         Please reserve your admission on the BHC website BEFORE February 14th!

Vision Night

To Be Announced

Vision Night THIS SATURDAY, March 26 at 6:30pm We would like to invite parents to join us for a night of sharing vision and mission for our school and its ministries to the local homeschool community.  Due to time sensitivity, we will need you to RSVP by emailing Kristy for full details on our location. This night will include FREE gourmet dinner while we gather in a small setting to discuss the future of Essential and the ministry of BHC. If you are available and you have a heart to minister to homeschool families, please respond ASAP to secure your spot with us. Seats are limited. Perhaps you would like to coach a sport, or you love to host events, or you want to see more classes offered, or you'd like to sponsor a club... Essential was born out of a God-given dream for community, and we know that God has been using this season to call people.  If He is moving in your heart, we hope you will join us.  Let's see what God has for our families and our community in the coming school year!
